right nipple burning after swimming

I went to the beach on saturday and swam in the water.  I was only in there for about 15 minutes when my right breast nipple started burning.  This is not the first time this has happened.  It only happens when I swim in natural sea water, not in my salt water pool.  I wasn't fully able to enjoy my beach trip because I was in pain.  I noticed yesterday that my nipple is a little red, but I don't know how it got red.  Could it be sun burn?  I was wearing a top, so I don't know how that could have gotten any sun.  My other nipple feels fine and doesn't show any redness.  Does anyone know what is causing the pain and how to stop it?
