Question for a DOCTOR..

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant, I am currently on Metformin which I have been told is safe for getting pregnant, but I am also on Chantix because I need to quit smoking. Is this dangerous or going to lessen my chances of conceiving? I plan to get off it IF I find out I am pregnant, but is that too late? Could I be harming my unborn?
Answers:

Pregnancy Category C Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks. Basically I would say to talk to your doctor before trying to conceive. My guess is that they will tell you to use the chantix first to quit smoking then when you have quit and are off the chantix, then you may try to conceive. Just call your clinic they should be able to give ou the info you need.

Not a doctor but chantix is a pregnancy category "C". Perhaps you can just call your clinic with this question.
